Why Small Local Business Need SEO Marketing




SEO is the most important thing you can do online. It also offers the best returns. In this day and age you have to have an online presence even if you are a small local business.

I have clients that often want me to do social media for them. I do provide social media services but I always tell them the first thing they need to do is work on SEO. Search engines drive 300% more traffic than social media. The top 2 online activities are still searches and e-mail. 93% percent of traffic comes from searches. If you can't make the first page online you might as well forget getting people to see your site, 75% of people never go past the first page and 95% of people in a search don't  go to the second page.

While I could make more offering them extra services I advise my clients on what is best and what I would do if it was me. We usually go on and do social media later after we start SEO and they can see how well it works for them. Some clients also want specific social media that might not fit with their business so I let them know what options I think are best. But social media is another topic for another time.

Think about how your clients think. If they need a haircut, lawyer, dentist, etc. what are they going to do to find one? They will search on Google. They will search something like dentist in XXX. Unless you are in a big city it is not hard to rank in the front page for that. This is one area I consider my niche. I like helping small business that don't rank somewhere from page 4 or worse. I have even had clients that did not rank after 7 pages and I stopped looking for them. I have been able to get a client that did not rank  (at least up to page 7) and I got them to the first page in a month.

SEO leads have a 14.6% chance to close compared to 1.7 for outbound leads like print ads. SEO cost 61% less than direct mail. You pay less and are getting more. An amazing 50% of users who search for a store visit the store in a day. You can see how SEO is not only important but inexpensive. It provides a low cost with high returns.

Most small business owners do not know much about SEO. According to MOZ one of the leading authorities on SEO Google changes their Algorithm 500-600 times a year. It makes it hard for a company to keep up with the changes. That is why getting a professional is a good idea. There are elements of SEO that if you do them wrong Google could penalize you. This is why it is important to rely on an expert. The experts can also make sure to only do the things that really work. They also can get things at lower prices. It is possible if you have a good expert they can cost you less than if you tried it yourself.

As you can see SEO is important. It also offers great returns for its low investment. Other marketing can and should be done but your first priority should be SEO.
